Campaign to Stop the Bus Cuts Delivers Over 12,000 Petition Signatures to County Executive Dan Onorato
Riders Call On County Executive to Stop the Cuts Now and Get Money From Harrisburg
The Campaign to Stop the Bus Cuts kicks off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Courthouse on Grant Street with a short press conference and the delivery of over 12,000 petition signatures to County Executive Dan Onorato calling on him to stop the proposed transit cuts that would hurt citizens, damage the County’s economy and derail the area’s revitalization. The campaign is also calling on Onorato to lead the fight in Harrisburg for dedicated funding for mass transit.

After a short press conference outside the Courthouse, where affected commuters will describe how the bus cuts will hurt individuals, damage the county’s economy and derail the area’s revitalization, the members of the campaign will go through security into the courthouse to deliver the 12,000+ signatures to County Executive Dan Onorato’s office.
The Campaign To Stop The Bus Cuts brought more than 150 people to the march 2nd County Council meeting. It includes the Mon Valley Unemployed Committee, SEIU, ACORN, The League of Young Voters, Save Our Transit and UNITEHERE. The Campaign has been gathering petition signatures to stop the cuts and has collected over 12,000 signatures in just a few short weeks. The campaign is planning a Town Hall Meeting for later in March. The group has also launched a website to help organize their efforts www.stopthebuscuts.org.
